About ACT

A leading standardized college admissions exam evaluating high school curriculum mastery in English, Math, and Reading, with optional Science and Writing sections.

ACT Exam Format & Focus

Enhanced ACT, offered on paper or computer: English (50 Qs), Math (45 Qs, including trigonometry), and Reading (36 Qs, passage-based). Science (40 Qs, data representation & scientific reasoning) and the Writing essay are optional, and Science does not count toward the Composite score.

How Skillzy Young Scholars Prepares Students for ACT

Skillzy Young Scholars teaches pacing and time-management strategies for each section, optional Science section prep for students whose target colleges want it, and targeted math formula review.

What ACT Covers

  • English grammar and rhetoric, reading comprehension and passage strategy
  • Mathematics through algebra, functions, geometry, statistics and trigonometry
  • Science-section data interpretation and optional writing requirements where applicable

Sample ACT Prep Plan

  • Begin with a ACT diagnostic and check the current official format, scoring rules and eligible level.
  • Weeks 2–4: repair the highest-impact skill gaps with focused lessons and short practice sets.
  • Weeks 5–7: mix question types, practise pacing and maintain an error log with corrected solutions.
  • Final phase: complete official-style practice, review test-day rules and avoid last-minute cramming.

Common ACT Mistakes We Help Students Avoid

  • Preparing for ACT using a generic or outdated format instead of checking the current official guidance.
  • Spending too long on one difficult item and sacrificing easier points later.
  • Using unofficial shortcuts without checking the current exam format or calculator rules.

Every student starts with a diagnostic assessment so we can see exactly where the gaps are. We then build a personalised prep plan, teach the concepts behind each question type, and practise under timed conditions. Every wrong answer is analysed so the same mistake does not repeat. Parents receive monthly progress reports and can see improvement clearly over time.
